We call her the bountiful Mother
But desire her like a lustful Lover
Forever fighting
Like dogs in heat
When all we need is six feet
We want her benign and kind
But our own eyes turn blind
Loudly we cry
Our throats wry
As we drain our world dry
Cut trees, fill it with concrete
Kill every creature, make it extinct
No animal, insect or bird
Is safe from the knife
Man cuts down everything in sight
Yet she holds promises deep
Sends up shoots as we weep
New life springs
Hope takes wings
The heart has new songs to sing
In a never ending cycle
Of hope and destruction
Who will win
Free us from sins
Is in our end our only redemption?
But desire her like a lustful Lover
Forever fighting
Like dogs in heat
When all we need is six feet
We want her benign and kind
But our own eyes turn blind
Loudly we cry
Our throats wry
As we drain our world dry
Cut trees, fill it with concrete
Kill every creature, make it extinct
No animal, insect or bird
Is safe from the knife
Man cuts down everything in sight
Yet she holds promises deep
Sends up shoots as we weep
New life springs
Hope takes wings
The heart has new songs to sing
In a never ending cycle
Of hope and destruction
Who will win
Free us from sins
Is in our end our only redemption?
